Surgical Removal Skin tags Marina Del Ray

Dr. Patel has significant experience in the removal of skin growths, including benign growths such as skin tags and cysts that can make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable.  Plastic surgery techniques are used to give the best cosmetic results. Her professional background, advanced skills, and compassionate approach have made her a favorite among patients in and around Marina del Rey, CA.

What types of surgical removals does Dr. Patel perform?

Dr. Patel is experienced in removing a wide range of skin growths, including precancerous lesions and cancerous growths, as well as benign growths like skin tags, cysts, and lipomas.

How are growths removed?

First, the growth will be evaluated to determine if it is benign or if it might be cancerous or precancerous.  The area surrounding the tissue may be anesthetized to reduce discomfort during the procedure.  In some cases, liquid nitrogen may be used to treat growths like warts or precancerous lesions; in other cases, the growth will be excised, or cut away.  When cancer is suspected, the growth will be biopsied in which the entire lesion or a portion of the lesion will be removed from the surface of the skin.  If the biopsy is determined to be cancerous, then an additional procedure will be performed to remove the entire lesion. It will be excised, or cut out, at full skin thickness with a small amount of normal skin surrounding the edges or margin. The margins will be examined to ensure all the cancerous cells have been eliminated. Surgeries are performed in the office, and in most cases, you can expect to resume your regular activities afterward. Discomfort following most in-office excisions is minimal.

Will the removal be covered by insurance?

When a removal is necessary to preserve good health, such as when a small sample of tissue is removed during a biopsy or skin cancer surgery, most insurances will cover the costs of the procedure. But the removal of a benign skin growth like a skin tag is an elective procedure – that is, removing the growth simply for your comfort or appearance, and not because the growth poses a health risk – insurance typically does not cover the costs of the procedure. In these cases, our office can provide you with a cost estimate prior to treatment.
